Your Zapier bill is charging you per step. n8n charges per workflow run.

We audit your Zapier account, migrate up to 10 Zaps to a client-owned n8n VPS, and hand you the keys. Flat fee. No monthly SaaS tax.

The billing cliff nobody warns you about

A 5-step Zap firing 200 times a day uses 1,000 tasks — not 200. Zapier's per-step billing means your costs multiply with every workflow you add. n8n counts one execution per run, regardless of how many nodes you chain together. Same work, 60–80% lower bill.

"Zapier has been killing me expenses wise would like some suggestions to move to some other automation platform to cut down costs?" — u/durkpang, r/automation (149 upvotes)
"The thing most people miss with Zapier is that it charges per task, not per Zap. A 3-step Zap running 500 times = 1,500 tasks billed. So you hit the plan limit 3x faster than expected." — u/hnx2020, r/automation

About the service

Solo operator — not an agency. I've migrated 5 Zapier workflow groups (Gmail→Sheets, Typeform→Slack, Calendly→Notion, Stripe→Airtable, webhook→HubSpot) and time each migration to keep the flat fee honest. If a migration takes more than my budgeted hours, I absorb it — you pay the same $750. That keeps me incentivised to build efficient workflows, not to bill more hours.

n8n has 187K GitHub stars, listed enterprise users (Vodafone, Microsoft, Wayfair, Zendesk), and a free Community Edition licensed for self-hosting with no per-execution fees. Your VPS, your data, your n8n instance. I don't touch it after handover unless you're on the Managed Ops retainer.
